England vs Congo DR: 5pm Kick-Off — And What to Do With Your PC Before, During and After
Lennon Byatt
The FIFA World Cup 2026 is in full swing, and between screaming at the TV, arguing with mates about formations, and watching Germany dismantle Curacao 7-1, we reckon there's another lineup worth building. Your dream gaming PC.
Every great football team needs the right player in the right position. And every great gaming PC needs the right component doing the right job. So we've matched the two up, here's your Dream XI, AWD-IT style.
For once, for actual once, England have a knockout game at a decent time.
Wednesday 1st July. England vs DR Congo. Round of 32. Atlanta. Kick-off: 5pm BST.
No staying up until 2am. No setting three alarms and falling asleep on the sofa at 1:30. No explaining to your boss why you look like death warmed up on Thursday morning. Just a proper, civilised, evening football match, the first England fans have had in this tournament.
So what do you do with your PC before, during, and after the game? We've mapped out the perfect England matchday for gamers. And if your setup isn't quite up to scratch, we'll fix that too.
England's Road to the Round of 32
Thomas Tuchel's side topped Group L, which is about as good as it gets before the knockouts begin. Seven points from three games, a 4-2 barnstormer against Croatia to open (Harry Kane, naturally, with two), a frustrating goalless draw against Ghana, and a composed 2-0 win over Panama to seal top spot. Kane's header against Panama was his 11th World Cup goal, making him England's all-time record scorer at the tournament.
DR Congo are no pushover, they reached the knockouts for the first time in their history, and held Portugal to a 1-1 draw in the group stage. Yoane Wissa has been electric up front, scoring three of their four goals. But England are favourites, and on current form, should see this one through.
Win this, and it gets tasty, a potential Round of 16 clash against Mexico or Ecuador, then possibly Brazil in the quarters. The bracket is wide open.

4. Brazil — The Flair Nation
Brazil drew 1-1 with Morocco in their opener, a bit frustrating for a nation that hasn't won the World Cup since 2002. But their gaming scene is anything but flat. Brazil is the largest gaming market in Latin America, with a rapidly growing PC gaming culture and an enormous mobile gaming base. Gaming is deeply embedded in youth culture, and Brazilian players regularly appear at the top of competitive rankings in titles like CS2, Rainbow Six Siege, and Valorant.
The Brazilian esports scene has also attracted significant investment in recent years, and the country's passionate, expressive style translates perfectly into gaming culture.
AWD-IT take: Brazil is the GPU — flashy, high-performance, and capable of moments of genuine brilliance that take your breath away.

Why 5pm Is Actually a Gift
Cast your mind back to this tournament's other kick-off times. Netherlands vs Morocco: 2am BST. Mexico vs Ecuador: 2am BST. Switzerland vs Algeria later this week: 4am BST.
England at 5pm is genuinely rare. It means you can watch the match, celebrate/process the result, and still have a full gaming session in the evening without wrecking your sleep. This is the matchday experience most of us have been waiting for since the group stage began.
The question is: is your setup ready to make the most of it?
What Build Do You Need?
For a proper England matchday setup, streaming 1080p or 4K, gaming at the same time, Discord running in the background, here's where we'd point you:
The Minimum: RTX 5060 Ti Build
Handles 1080p streaming and 1080p/1440p gaming simultaneously without breaking a sweat. The 50-series architecture is significantly more power-efficient than previous generations, so it runs cool and quiet, perfect when you don't want fan noise drowning out the commentary.
The Sweet Spot: RTX 5070 Build
1440p gaming, 4K streaming on the second monitor, Discord, browser tabs, all at once, no compromise. This is the build most AWD-IT customers in this bracket go for, and it's easy to see why. Cracking value, excellent all-round performance.
The Full England Experience: RTX 5080 or 5090 Build
4K gaming on one screen, 4K stream on another, recording the match highlights, Discord voice running, and the machine doesn't even notice. If you want absolutely zero compromise on matchday, this is where you end up.

The Half-Time Gaming Plan
Fifteen minutes at half-time is enough time for a proper gaming hit if your PC loads fast. An AWD-IT build with NVMe SSD storage means you're in a game within seconds, not sitting watching a loading screen when you should be watching Shearer and Carragher disagree about the same thing they always disagree about.
Here's what works well in 15 minutes:
• A quick Rocket League match or two — always a guaranteed session
• A couple of Warzone rounds — drop, loot, get involved
• A CS2 deathmatch warmup — back at the desk sharp for the second half
• A few laps in a racing game — Forza Motorsport, F1 25, take your pick
The key is speed, fast storage, fast load times, no faff. All AWD-IT builds ship with NVMe SSDs as standard.
Best Sim Racing Setup for Beginners: Start With the Essentials
You don’t need a full cockpit immediately. A well‑chosen beginner setup helps you develop skills faster and keeps costs under control.
1. Steering Wheel and Pedals (Top Priority)
Your wheel and pedals are the most important part of any sim racing rig. Force feedback allows you to feel grip changes, kerbs, and steering resistance—crucial for learning car control.
Beginner tip: Focus on force feedback quality rather than raw power.

England's Path If They Get Through
Win against Congo DR and England's potential route to the Final looks like this:
• Round of 16 (8–9 July): Mexico or Ecuador — tough but winnable
• Quarter-Final (12–13 July): Potentially Brazil — the big one
• Semi-Final (15–16 July): Possibly Argentina — we're in Messi territory now
• Final (19 July): MetLife Stadium, New Jersey — it might be coming home
The bracket is genuinely open. England are well-placed, and Tuchel's side are unbeaten in ten competitive fixtures. Don't get your hopes up. Also: get your hopes up.

The point is don't buy a £150 mouse expecting it to fix your aim. Buy it because the weight, shape, and quality will make long gaming sessions more comfortable.
AWD-IT stocks gaming mice from Razer, Corsair, and ASUS at a range of price points. If you're unsure where to start, a mid-range wireless mouse from any of these brands will give you everything you need for competitive gaming.

Signs your PC has genuinely run its race
When It IS Time for a Full Rebuild
Even Messi will retire eventually. And there are signs your PC has genuinely run its race:
• CPU is pre-2018 and DDR3 (no DDR5 upgrade path available)
• Motherboard doesn't support PCIe 4.0 — you're bottlenecking modern GPUs
• Power supply is under 500W — can't safely run anything modern
• Multiple components failing, temperatures consistently hitting 90°C+
If you're ticking more than two of those boxes, a fresh AWD-IT pre-built is often better value than stacking upgrades onto a dead-end platform. You get a warranty, a coherent spec, and you know everything works together from day one.
The World Cup Final is at midnight BST on 19th July. That's six weeks to get your late-night setup sorted.
Don't watch it on a tinny laptop with the brightness on full. Do it properly.
Don't Watch the Knockouts on a Substandard Setup
England's 5pm kick-off is a gift. The knockout rounds are here, the stakes are real, and the games are only going to get bigger from here. Whether England go deep or go home on Wednesday night, you want to be watching on a setup that does the occasion justice.
AWD-IT builds every machine in the UK. Every rig is rigorously tested before it ships, and you'll be gaming the same day it arrives. Whatever budget you're working with, there's a build that fits.
