The GIGABYTE AORUS RTX 5090 AI BOX is an external graphics solution that connects a full GeForce RTX 5090 to a laptop or compact PC over Thunderbolt 5, delivering up to 80Gbps of bidirectional bandwidth. It houses a liquid-cooled RTX 5090 with 32GB of GDDR7 alongside a built-in 850W power supply, so no separate PSU is required. Thunderbolt 5 also carries up to 100W of Power Delivery and Ethernet, letting the AI BOX double as a full docking station.

External GPU Over Thunderbolt 5

This is an external GPU enclosure rather than an internal graphics card, so it connects by a single Thunderbolt 5 cable instead of a PCI Express slot. That transforms an ultra-slim laptop into a machine with near-desktop graphics performance, without giving up portability when you unplug. Thunderbolt 5 provides up to 80Gbps of bidirectional bandwidth with 64Gbps dedicated to the GPU, and a Windows 11 system with Thunderbolt 5 or USB4 support is required.

Full Desktop RTX 5090 Inside

The enclosure contains a genuine GIGABYTE WATERFORCE RTX 5090 32G, built on NVIDIA's Blackwell GB202 with 21,760 CUDA cores and 32GB of GDDR7 on a 512-bit bus running at 28 Gbps. That is the full desktop silicon rather than a cut-down mobile variant, giving enormous headroom for 4K gaming, 3D rendering and AI workloads. GPU clock runs to 2407 MHz, and the card supports up to four displays at resolutions as high as 8K.

WATERFORCE Liquid Cooling and Built-In PSU

An AORUS WATERFORCE all-in-one cooling system with a large copper base plate, 240mm aluminium radiator and two 120mm silent fans keeps the RTX 5090 cool while staying remarkably quiet for the power involved. An 850W power supply rated above 90 per cent efficiency is built into the unit, so it needs only a mains lead. The whole enclosure measures 189 x 302 x 172mm and weighs around 5.4kg.

Docking Station Connectivity

Beyond graphics, the AI BOX acts as a complete docking station: video output covers three DisplayPort 2.1 and one HDMI 2.1, with a second Thunderbolt 5 port for peripherals and daisy-chaining. Three USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports (one front Type-C, two rear Type-A) and a wired Ethernet port cover the rest, the latter avoiding the lag and dropouts of Wi-Fi during critical moments. Power Delivery 3.0 supplies up to 100W to charge the laptop over the same cable, and the AI BOX GPU Selector lets you assign individual applications to the external or internal GPU.
