Description

Kioxia 1TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD - LSF10Z001TG8

The Kioxia 1TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD is a 1TB PCIe Gen 4 NVMe solid state drive in the M.2 2280 form factor, delivering the responsiveness that makes the single biggest difference to how quickly a system feels. Capacity of 1TB gives room for an operating system, a substantial application or game library and working files without constant housekeeping.

NVMe Speed Over SATA

NVMe over PCI Express is a fundamentally different connection from SATA, not simply a faster one. SATA tops out at roughly 550MB/s no matter how good the drive behind it, because the interface itself is the ceiling. NVMe removes that ceiling and also handles far more simultaneous commands, which is why the difference shows up most in everyday use rather than in benchmarks: boot times, application launches and loading screens all shorten noticeably.

PCIe Gen 4 Performance

PCI Express 4.0 doubles the bandwidth of Gen 3 and is supported by essentially every current motherboard, making this the mainstream sweet spot for price against performance. Gen 4 also runs cooler and draws less power than Gen 5, which matters in laptops and compact builds where there is little airflow over the M.2 slot. The drive is backwards compatible with Gen 3 slots at reduced speed.

M.2 2280 Fitment

The M.2 2280 form factor is the standard size and fits directly onto the motherboard or laptop board with no cables or mounting brackets. Solid state construction means no moving parts, improving shock resistance and reliability over a mechanical drive. Check your board has a free M.2 slot of the right length before ordering, as some compact laptops use shorter 2230 or 2242 slots.

A Practical Upgrade

For anyone still running a mechanical hard drive as their system disk, moving to solid state is the most noticeable upgrade available, ahead of a faster processor or additional memory. Cloning software supplied by most manufacturers makes migrating an existing installation straightforward rather than requiring a clean reinstall.
