AWD-IT’s Twitch Christmas Collab 2020

Posted by   Paul Dunn

2020, what can we say about this year...

Many of us have experienced a very different year compared to the usual, and it has also created more valuable time for each and every one of us to appreciate people's talents, no matter how big or small, or how popular they may be.

As 2020 comes to a close, we wanted to prepare for the Christmas period with some appreciation to a few hard-working gamers. A lot of our favourite gamers have been continuously creating fantastic content for all of us, and have put together some suggestions, tips and predictions for us.

We would like to just say thank you to the creators who have contributed to this. Here are the questions we asked -

Specialising in gaming, comics, anime and more. The Nerd Council provides fantastic streams that showcase a variety of gaming, but mainly focus on the special community they have built.

The Nerd Council are an amazing team of hard workers who challenge the typical convention of what a ‘nerd’ is in modern times, whilst celebrating everything a nerd provides. They are also one of the UK’s most prominent black produced podcasts and online platforms (how amazing!)

Own Experience of 2020

2020 has had its ups and downs but it's been an interesting experience nonetheless! 2020 has set precedent to what I want to achieve in 2021 so bring it on!

Geeky Pastimes

Geeky Pastimes (aka Tom) is an amazing variety gamer, who can also solve Call of Duty Easter Eggs (please tell us your secrets) and unlike many streamers, he covers everything within the theme park world. Tom is also known to be a Halo Infinite and Perfect Dark fanboy!

Tom is continuously growing within the streaming world, and we can see why, as his content and dedication to gaming is fantastic.

Let’s take a look at his answers -

Biggest Gaming Recommendations for Christmas 2020

Of course this has to be Warzone and Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War for me. If you can get a group of friends together there's just so much content, from zombies, two warzone maps and an awesome campaign, all the way to the ridiculous fun of prop hunt. For single player games I'm absolutely loving Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Astrobot, and Planet Coaster.

Gaming Highlight of 2020

The Last of Us Part II - I never really got on with the first game and didn't think it was all that special, but the second one was incredible to me. It worked so hard to get you to care about the characters, even the random enemies you fight against throughout the game, and it succeeded. There's a few spectacular moments that really shake up the narrative and make this stand out above other games.

Best Christmas Gifts for Gamers

A good headset. I use the expensive Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless - but even if you're just willing to spend more than £50 on a headset, it'll make a huge difference over the cheaper ones. Your teammates will thank you for having a good mic and you can enjoy some of the incredible audio production that's going into games lately. Cheap headphones don't do bass!

Predictions of the Gaming World in 2021

I think games like Phasmophobia might lead to a new genre appearing, co-op games that aren't focused on combat. I'd be really interested to see an AAA studio release something like this where the focus is on communication and problem-solving.

Best Autumn/Winter Gaming Release

Assassin's Creed Valhalla. There's been a lot of amazing games this season, but Assassin's Creed is so huge and beautiful, and really improves on the formula of the last two games. It helps that I live where it's set, but if you've been put off by AC games before, it might be worth having a look at this one. Ubisoft really are masters of open worlds.

Own Experience of 2020

Solving the PawnTakesPawn campaign to get the first trailer for Black Ops Cold War. It was an incredible community effort, my most popular stream without a raid, and I had so many kind comments off the back of it. It was so exciting to realise that we were leading the way with it and the whole community seemed to be supporting it. Just an awesome experience and it really catapulted my channels and name into a new level.

Well known for his skills in Fifa, but also provides a variety of games to watch for his viewers.

Josh is an up and coming Twitch gamer, who has only recently become a more common theme in the world of game streaming.

More recently, we have found him playing the recent popularised game, Among Us, whilst he continues to grow his own community through his social media platforms.

We know for a fact that he is going to grow into an even bigger success, and we can't wait to see it happen.

Let’s take a look at his answers (SPOILER ALERT: They are awesome) -

Biggest Gaming Recommendations for Christmas 2020

My recommendation is simply to have fun. Play the games you love with the people you enjoy playing with.

If you picked up a next-generation console (congratulations first of all on managing to get one) and secondly, enjoy the enhanced playing experience and the multitude of new releases that will coincide. Gaming is all about fun though so whether you're planning to spend all of the holiday season playing video games, or you only play for a few hours. Make sure it is a game you enjoy and that will leave a positive lasting memory. After the year 2020 has been, I think it's fair to say that gaming around Christmas time can help spread a little cheer with each other in the gaming community and spread some positivity.

Gaming Highlight of 2020

On a personal level. I'd say the highlight has been the development of the gaming world in general. We have, of course, seen the release of two next-generation consoles that as you would expect, created mass hysteria and quite a few sparring fans trying to claim which one was best.

We’ve seen the development of some of the most powerful GPUs the PC gaming industry has seen, and a new social aspect to gaming that maybe hasn’t always existed to the level it should have been. Games such as Among Us have really brought communities together, whether that be a group of 10 friends or a group of content creators, it felt like a new way to interact with others while gaming at the same time.

Of course, 2020 meant we all had a lot more time at home and time to spend online and personally I hope that some of the negative stigmas about playing video games socially as a career can continue to be distinguished because we have really seen the benefits that playing video games can bring to people in their lives.

Best Christmas Gifts for Gamers

This one can widely differ depending on the gamer.

Of course, if you’re looking for a special present, then look no further than the Xbox Series X or the PlayStation 5 for a console gamer (who I’m sure would be extremely grateful for the opportunity to experience the power of these consoles.) But if you're looking for a gift for a PC gamer, maybe find out if they need an upgrade, maybe a new graphics card for gaming. Potentially something as simple as a new mouse and keyboard. If there is one thing I know as a small content creator and gamer, it's that we are always on the lookout for upgrades and it's something we’d always appreciate. However, the one item you can never go wrong with is a new game.

Whether we like to admit it or not, we always have our eyes on a new or even old release that we would like to get our hands-on. Often it's a game that catches our eye but we can't justify spending the money on, so whatever your price range and budget, there is something that every gamer will appreciate you buying them as a gift.

The biggest advice though is to ask because I'm sure they'll more than happily reel a list of products they would love to add to their gaming collection.

Predictions of the Gaming World in 2021

I can see the gaming industry really take off into 2021. We’ve seen a growth in new people gaming more than they have done in previous years and I hope that this continues.

In terms of games themselves, hopefully, we can see some fantastic new releases across all platforms but particularly on the next generation. There is so much potential for the game industry to expand their development and release new games that will hopefully add to the hype.

The community wants to see developers jump at the chance to bring out games with incredibly hooking storylines and graphics and to really push this industry into the centre stage. I also feel the esports industry will continue to rocket, as we’ve seen in recent times that main broadcasters continue to pick up the streaming rights to these competitions and introduce a new audience to the world of competitive gaming so I can see that really taking off.

Finally, I think we will see the ushering in of a new era of gaming itself. New consoles, more powerful PC’s, the opportunities are needless for both developers and gamers alike.

Hopefully, 2021 can be the year that the industry creates some amazing content.

Best Autumn/Winter Gaming Release

I'm sure this decision, whatever I choose will stir up controversy, because after all, what is an opinion with someone disagreeing

Of course, there was the massive hype around the release of Cyberpunk originally delayed three times from April. Gamers had high expectations and by the reviews, people on PC and next-generation are delighted. However, people playing on the old generation are experiencing glitches and disappointment.

Fall guys also took the gaming world by storm when it was released, and quickly became one of the most viewed games on Twitch, and had the gaming community coming together to try and get that crown. While a simple game, it seemed to capture the minds of everyone of any age, which despite its simple nature and relatively cheap price, completely blew the month of September, out of the water.

Also, it is difficult to ignore the release of a new Call Of Duty and the return of many players' favourite mode, Zombies, and Warzone carries over to the new game, so there are expectations there.

It is difficult to put a finger on the best release, so there's 3 to start a conversation, which i'm sure you can all add on to, with your own.

Own Experience of 2020

It has been a strange old year.

We’ve seen everywhere shut down around us and the world as we know it changes, but gaming really hasn't, if anything it has benefitted.

I decided to start streaming on a more regular basis back at the end of May, as someone who plays games often, I thought it was time to try and broadcast my experiences and see if I could turn it into a career.

I purchased a PC to try and expand my streaming capabilities and offer extended gaming opportunities, to a certain extent, 2020 has been a success for myself, and while I haven’t hit incredible numbers, I have seen a small amount of growth which is pleasing to see, and I am certainly happy I have made the best out of a bad situation.

Hopefully 2021 can see a continued growth in the gaming and content creating community and everyone can smash the goals they set themselves. Mine is just to continue enjoying the content I create and see where it takes me.
